Please following the step by step guidelines below to restore the Bluetooth connection.
- First, disconnect the BT-2 Bluetooth module from the DC-DC MPPT battery charger.
- Second, disconnect the DC-DC MPPT battery charger completely from the system (solar panel, starter battery, alternator, etc.) and wait until there are no longer flashing/solid lights as there may be a delay. Once off, let it rest for approximately 30 seconds.
- Next, reconnect the house battery to the DC-DC MPPT battery charger first then reconnect all other components (solar panel, starter battery, alternator, and etc).
- Finally, plug in the BT-2 Bluetooth module to the RS485 communication port on the DC-DC MPPT battery charger and use the DC Home App on your phone to add this device.
If this did not solve your connection issue between the 50A DC-DC MPPT battery charger and the BT-2 Bluetooth module, please contact us by email or give us a phone call, we will be glad to provide further technical assistance.
Before You Start: Check BT-2 Compatibility
Before repeating the reset process, confirm that your exact charger model appears in the compatibility list for the Renogy BT-2 Bluetooth Module. A charger shown in Renogy’s DC-DC battery charger lineup is not automatically compatible with BT-2.
- BT-2 works with select Renogy devices that use an RS485 communication port.
- BT-2 and BT-1 are not interchangeable. BT-2 uses RS485, while BT-1 uses RS232/RJ12.
- Use the Renogy DC Home App to add and monitor compatible devices. The older Renogy BT App is no longer supported.
- Make sure BT-2 is connected to the charger’s correct RS485 communication port.
If BT-2 Still Won’t Connect
If the connection does not return after completing the reset steps above, check the following before contacting support:
- Move your phone close to the BT-2 module and confirm that Bluetooth is turned on.
- Close and reopen the Renogy DC Home App, then try adding the device again.
- Check that the app has the Bluetooth and other required device permissions on your phone.
- Inspect the communication cable and make sure both ends are fully seated.
- Confirm that the charger has stable power before trying to connect BT-2 again.
If BT-2 still cannot connect, note the DC-DC charger model, BT-2 model, app version, indicator-light status, and any error message or screenshot. Providing these details through Renogy Support can help narrow down the issue more quickly.
BT-2, BT-1, and Battery Shunt 300: What’s the Difference?
Renogy Bluetooth accessories do not all use the same communication method. Check the device type before replacing a module or repeating the pairing process.
| Device | Communication method | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| BT-2 | RS485 | Monitoring select Renogy charge controllers, DC-DC battery chargers, inverters, and other compatible devices |
| BT-1 | RS232/RJ12 | Connecting to older compatible Renogy devices |
| Battery Shunt 300 | Bluetooth LE/BLE Mesh | Monitoring battery data through compatible Renogy monitoring systems and apps |
If you are troubleshooting a Battery Shunt 300, BT-2 should not be treated as a universal replacement for its Bluetooth connection. Follow the pairing and compatibility instructions for the Shunt 300 itself.
