Rover 30A Charge Controller features Auto-On/Off Mode, Timer Mode, Manual Mode, Test Mode, and Always-On Mode, maximizing your system's flexibility.
Wiring Steps
Do not insert the wires into the space below the socket/hatch, which will damage terminals because of loose connections.
Step 1.
Loosen the screws above the terminals to make the socket/hatch descend.
Step 2.
Insert the wires into the socket/hatch. The terminals on the Rover 30A can accept up to 8AWG of wires.
Step 3.
Tighten the screws to elevate the socket/hatch to complete the wiring.

Connect and set the battery type
The first step needed to set up the charge controller is to connect it to a battery. Then you can directly set the battery type using the arrow keys on the charge controller.
Connection of a Temperature Sensor
Connect the label port on the controller and then place the sensor inside the battery compartment. The sensor can be taped to one side of the battery.
Mounting On a Flat Surface & Bluetooth Connection
The package includes mounting brackets that can be used to mount the Rover on any flat surface. You can purchase an additional BT-2 Module to connect to the Rover using the RS485 port, allowing you to monitor and directly change parameters via the app.
Connect to the Solar Panel
The final step is to connect the solar panel. Use the adapter kit to connect the panel to the Rover. Once connected, the PV voltage will be displayed on the LCD screen.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. In what order do I connect my system?
The off-grid solar system includes the solar panels, charge controller, batteries, inverter, Bluetooth module, and wirings. First, the battery should be hooked up to the charge controller with tray cables. Second, then connect your solar panel to your charge controller with adaptor kits.
2. What type of protection does the Rover MPPT Charge Controller have?
Battery Protection: Battery Over Discharge protection, Battery Over Voltage protection, Battery Reverse Polarity protection, Load Protection: Load Overload protection, Load Short Circuit protection, Controller Overheating protection PV Protection: PV Over Current Protection, PV Short Circuit protection, PV Reverse Polarity protection, Battery overheating protection.
3. What are the Positive ground and negative ground charge controllers?
In charge controllers, positive ground or negative ground refers to how the controller is wired internally. Positive ground means all the positives are hard-wired together, and the internal switching happens on the negatives. The negative ground is the opposite. It doesn't matter as long as your solar +/- runs to the charge controller and isn't grounded anywhere else.
4. Does the Rover 30A MPPT charge controller have a built in 30A fuse for the rated 30A load output?
No. Please always add an external fuse between the charge controller and batteries. To determine the fuse size needed between the charge controller and battery bank, you can match the amperage rating on the charge controller. For instance, if you have one of our 30Amp charge controllers, we recommend using a 30Amp fuse.
5. If I have 2x200W panels which of these MPPT charge controller will be good? 20A or 30A ect.
If you connect these panels in series to a 24V system, the 20A model would be acceptable. But you would need a 30A controller if you connect these two solar panels in parallel to make a 12V system.
6. How many watts can Renogy Rover 30 amp charge controller handle?
The Rover MPPT charge controller can work with standard off-grid 12/24V solar panels with high voltage or multiple panels with voltage up to 100V. And the maximum combined input solar power is 400W for a 12V battery system or 800W for a 24V system. In particular, this controller will significantly increase the efficiency of a solar system where the solar panel voltage is much higher than the battery voltage.
7. What is a Solar Charge Controller and what is MPPT?
Renogy Rover series solar charge controller uses the most advanced Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technology to track solar panels' maximum power voltage point as it varies depending on sunlight exposure and temperature. This technology ensures the maximum efficiency of your solar system and significantly outperforms standard PWM solar controllers. Another benefit of MPPT technology is the wide solar input voltage range. This controller can work with standard off-grid 12/24V solar panels and with high voltage or multiple panels with voltage up to 100V.

I would have rated it a five except for the poor quality of the wire connectors.

Nice controller with 1 minor complaint

Posted by Camping Platypus on Sep 10th 2021

Good connection points, menu easy to navigate. Wish the load output could be programmed to come on when the unit is charging, not at night. Otherwise happy with the purchase

    Very pleased

Posted by Jon on Sep 3rd 2021

Works fantastic I am using four controllers to the same battery bank. They work very well together. They change to demands by .25 amp increase or decrease. I am able to collect all power from my 4 300 watt grids. I am able to run 50 amps power and charge batteries at the same time. Very pleased.

    Great charging and wonderful features

Posted by Carl on Jul 8th 2021

I purchased this unit a few months ago and tested it with two 100w panels (yes overkill but expandable). I like the features and love the ability to monitor w/ BT. The software does need some ability to download the stored data from the Rover unit into a spreadsheet, because it has lots of data stored daily. The unit has lots of protection features and milks ever bit of energy out of the panels. Charging begins at first light and ends after sunset.

    Relatively happy so far

Posted by MTB guy on Mar 28th 2021

I bought this product about a month ago to charge a Renogy 100amp Lithium battery. It was straightforward on the install but when I had any technical questions contacting customer support was very dismal. I ended up speaking with someone in another country that was not technically inclined at all and was not able to answer any of my questions with knowledge of the product. I felt like I knew more about some of the technical aspects of the charger than they did. For a company that is based in California, I expected better local support after purchasing one of their batteries and solar chargers. I don't anticipate any issues with the equipment but if I do I am not overly confident on what the solutions will be to correct them.

Solid Unit, Solid Manual, Solid Ice, Waiting for S

Posted by Ryan on Feb 9th 2021

The Rover MPPT Li 30 solar charge controller came very well packaged had an excellent manual while the price for this solid looking little unit is good! I regret to say that the temperature here is about 10 F and it's snowing and I have the mounting ready in the Caravan but have not put the Rover through the tests!
