Phase 3 Field Testing Update: Go Far Solution in a Truck Cross-Bin Setup

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a quick real-world update on how the Go Far Solution setup has been performing for me in the field.

For Phase 3, I moved the system out of my trailer ecosystem and built it directly into a truck-bed cross-bin to test it out for overlanding, site work, and everyday off-grid utility. Here are a few key highlights from hands-on testing:

  • Alternator Charging: The DC-DC charger pulls a steady, reliable 49A while driving, keeping the battery bank topped up easily on the road. I still have to discharge my battery to a lower SOC then drive for a long time to monitor the temps of the DCDC charger. The current horizontal install isn't permanent and it will be rewired and mounted vertically. Thanks for everyone who caught that improvement that was needed.
  • Inverter & Surge Loads: Tested the pure sine wave inverter on a country fencing project running a heavy-duty 7 ¼" DeWalt circular saw and charging power tool batteries. It handled those initial motor starting surges cleanly with zero issues. The saw pulls 74A initially and drops to 69A while cutting and there were no issues.
  • Wiring & Connections: The heavy-duty 6AWG cable kit with Anderson connectors made quick-disconnecting between the truck bed setup and my trailer system simple with no noticeable voltage drop. This way I can use either my truck bed Go Far Solution with the DCDC charger, or simply disconnect and use the extension cable to connect to my camping trailer with a different Renogy DCDC charger.
  • CarPlay Experience: Monitoring incoming solar/alternator power on the truck’s infotainment screen while driving is super handy (saw 730W coming in while cruising at 49 amps). I'd love to see some app updats to make the display look just like the phone app.

  • Reliability: The hardware has held up well against off-road vibration, weather exposure (dust, not water/rain, and heavy day-to-day usage.
  • Car fridge: I also borrowed a 110v/12v car fridge freezer and connected it to the 110v (I don't have a 12V cigaratte socket installed on this kit to make use of the direct DC power) and it kept my drinks and snacks cold with minimal draw on the system.
  • Shadowflux 195w panel: This panel is large and a bit too big to mount on my Diamondback cover, but connecting to the MC4 inputs on the DCDC MPPT charges the system when parked just fine.
