How to Troubleshoot A Pro Lithium Battery If Its Heating Function Is Not Working?

By Renogy User Experience Team Feb 5th 2024

Why can't my Pro lithium battery’s heating function work? If you're into tech, dealing with a Pro lithium battery whose heating function is not working can be a real pain, how to do the battery troubleshooting? Even with a fancy battery bank, you might run into this issue. If you're stuck with this, there are some easy tricks to try. Let's figure out why your power's acting up and what you can do about it.

This troubleshooting guide applies to the following products:

Why Can’t My Pro Battery’s Heating Function Work?

Unfortunately, when your Pro lithium battery’s heating function is not working, there could be a variety of reasons behind the problem. The issues might stem from a damaged battery or external factors unrelated to the lithium battery itself. It may require some trial and error as well as battery troubleshooting to uncover the underlying cause.

What Are the Factors Affecting the Operation of Pro Battery’s Heating Function?

1. Not meeting the activation conditions for the individual battery's self-heating function.

2. Not meeting the activation conditions for the heating film when two or more batteries are connected in parallel.

Troubleshooting RV Battery Problems: A Step by Step Guide

For a single battery, it needs to be confirmed whether the following conditions are met:

1. Voltage difference. The voltage difference between the charging voltage of the external charging device and the battery voltage is greater than 0.7V.

2. Necessary current to drive the heating film. The charging device can provide a continuous and stable charging current to the battery (recommended greater than 4A).

3. Temperature conditions. The internal temperature of the battery is lower than 41°F/5°C and higher than the minimum working temperature of the heating film, -4°F/-20°C.

------Possible Results------

Positive: The above conditions are not simultaneously met. Please meet the conditions and try again.

Negative: All the above conditions are met, but the heating function does not start. It is determined as a battery fault.

For two or more batteries in parallel, it needs to be confirmed whether the following conditions are met:

1. Voltage difference. The voltage difference between the charging voltage of the external charging device and the battery group voltage is greater than 0.7V.

2. Necessary current to drive the heating film. The charging device can provide a continuous and stable charging current to each battery (recommended greater than 4A).

3. Temperature conditions. The internal temperature of the battery is lower than 41°F/5°C and higher than the minimum working temperature of the heating film, -4°F/-20°C.

4. Heating film activation logic. When both batteries are in a low-temperature charging protection state and meet the conditions for self-heating startup, the self-heating function of the two batteries will work simultaneously. However, there may be a situation where one battery's internal temperature recovers to above the recovery value of 37°F/3°C for low-temperature charging protection before the other. In this case, the recovering battery will not immediately allow charging but will wait for 10 minutes. If, after 10 minutes, the internal temperature of the other battery has not recovered to above the recovery value of 37°F/3°C for low-temperature charging protection, the battery that recovered first will allow charging, immediately lowering the bus voltage to the battery voltage. This can result in the other battery, whose internal temperature has not recovered to above the recovery value of 3°C for low-temperature charging protection, shutting off the self-heating function. The self-heating function of the battery with the lower internal temperature will only resume when the voltage difference between the two batteries is greater than 0.5V.

------Possible Results------

Positive: The above conditions are not simultaneously met. Please meet the conditions and try again.

Negative: All the above conditions are met, but the heating function does not start. It is determined as a battery fault.
